Kancha Gachibowli, a hotspot for biodiversity in Hyderabad with 700+ plant species, 200+ bird species, and ancient rock formations, faced rampant destruction over the March 30–April 2 weekend. Without permission, over 2 sq km was cleared using 50+ earthmovers. The Supreme Court intervened to stop the activity. Though the land auction was later canceled, plans to convert the area into an “eco-park” have drawn criticism for undermining an already thriving ecosystem.
